Where do soldiers belong after their homecoming? Is it possible, or even reasonable, to expect them to rejoin their communities as if nothing has happened? And in moments of hardship, who are soldiers expected to turn to if they feel alienated by the world they once lived in? These are the questions Finkel faces as he revisits the brave but shaken men of the 2-16. More than a work of journalism, Thank You for Your Service is an act of understanding--shocking but always riveting, unflinching but deeply humane, it takes us inside the heads of those who must live the rest of their lives with the chilling realities of war.

Jurassic Park
Michael Crichton • F CRI
Discussion May 15th

An American bioengineering research firm erects a theme park on a Caribbean island, complete with living dinosaurs, and invites a group of scientists to be its first terrified guests.

We'll be taking a break in the summer.

The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane
Lisa See • F SEE
Discussion September 18th

A powerful story about circumstances, culture, and distance, The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane paints an unforgettable portrait of a little known region and its people and celebrates the bond of family.

Practical Magic

Alice Hoffman • F HOF

Discussion October 16th

Sorcery is the legacy of Gillian and Sally Owens, a two-hundred-year-old family legacy they both try to escape--one through marriage, the other through running away--until they realize that their magic is a gift, rather than an affliction.

Final Girls : a novel
Riley Sager • F SAG
Discussion November 20th

Ten years ago, college student Quincy Carpenter went on vacation with five friends and came back alone, the only survivor of a horror movie–scale massacre. catastrophic brain injuries.

In 1981, an aspiring Duke medical student, Thomas, was nearly killed in a horrific automobile accident in New Hampshire, crushing the right side of his head and brain. Doctors at the local hospital refused to treat him, saying, “He is too far gone, let him die with
dignity."

Left to die in the hospital hallway, Thomas' friend smashed a fired alarm that started a sequence of events which sent Thomas to a trauma hospital where one brilliant, daring, and innovative surgeon took a chance on him.

These life saving measures initiated a series of “little miracles” that instilled hope in times of great doubt.
This historic medical case has dramatically transformed lives, medicine and neuroscience as we know it today.

Saturday, February 3rd, 2018
11:00am

Chris Maloney Lecture Hall♦Ocean City Free Public Library♦1735 Simpson Avenue, Ocean City, NJ 08226♦609-399-2434

www.oceancitylibrary.org
Sat, 03 Feb 2018 00:00:00 GMT Feb 4 - "The Art of the Trio": Concert Series & Discussion http://home.oceancitylibrary.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=content.pageDetails&id=80746
<img alt="" src="https://imageserv11.team-logic.com/mediaLibrary/2021/lgThe_Art_of_the_Trio.PNG" style="margin: 0px auto;
