6:30-8:30pm

Great travel writing is great storytelling that offers insights and experiences unique to a certain place and people. Great travel writing is less about the person telling the story than it is how their experiences reveal the character of a place and people, taking the reader into the journey. In this workshop we will talk about various forms of travel writing and then we will explore this most engaging and storytelling form of travel writing: narrative travel writing. We will delve into the deeper and more timeless stories and experiences of a place. In doing so, each participant will draw on his or her own travels, which can be as near as a local setting right here in southern New Jersey or as far flung as travels to Vietnam or France or elsewhere. In our two hours together, we will engage exercises that unearth the stories of journeys each person wants to tell, we will hone in on what those stories are at their core, and we will explore ways to write stories at their best.

Bring a blank notebook/notepad and pen/pencil to the workshop. Be prepared to have fun brainstorming, reading out loud some great travel writing samples (provided by Beebe), doing engaging writing exercises, and discussing with each other the results toward seeking the central spine and direction of your stories.
                                                              *Registration required*

Beebe Bahrami is an award-winning travel writer and author of several books, including her recently released travel narratives on southwestern France, Café Oc (Shanti Arts Publishing) and Café Neandertal (Counterpoint Press) and her books on Spain, The Spiritual Traveler Spain (Paulist Press) and Historic Walking Guides: Madrid (DestinWorld Publishing). There was something about the hands-on experience of moving the little pieces of tesserae into a design that was so satisfying and therapeutic. Inspired by the natural beauty of the coast and the feeling it evokes, Michele combines bright colors and interesting materials like glass and mirror to make happy vibrant designs. Spirituality and love of life are themes that infuse and define her work. Michele also teaches mosaic classes so she can share her passion with others.
Mon, 28 Aug 2017 00:00:00 GMT Aug 28 - "Bonk!
