Why: Suicide is now the 2nd leading cause of death for youth ages 10-24. In 2013, nationally 8% of high school students reported attempting suicide in the previous year. The rate was 9.9% for high school students in New Jersey. Data from the CDC shows reported suicide attempts and suicidal thoughts have been increasing for high school students since 2009.
