Walking the Way Across Southern France and Northern Spain
with writer and anthropologist Beebe Bahrami

February 1, 2018     6:30 pm

Popularized in film and books, such as with Martin Sheen in The Way and Shirley MacLaine in The Camino, the Camino de Santiago is a real adventure, a long distance trek across southern France and northern Spain to the purported tomb of Saint James the Greater in the city of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain. Come join us for an evening of walking along this trail while learning more about how it came to be, the legends that enchant it, and the deeper histories and prehistories that lay under the pilgrim’s feet as well as in the stars of the Milky Way overhead. This journey will be rich in images and stories told from the trail.

How to Prepare for Hikes and Treks
with writer and anthropologist Beebe Bahrami

April 5, 2018      6:30pm

Join outdoors and adventure writer and cultural anthropologist Beebe Bahrami as she talks about how to prepare for both shorter and longer distance hikes and treks. Included will be practical advice for training, packing, planning, and heading out while also enriching the discussion with personal tales, trials and triumphs, from her own long distance treks on several trails of the Camino de Santiago, Way of Saint James, across Portugal, France and Spain, and shorter treks across eastern Germany, southern England, and across Cornwall.

Local writer and anthropologist Beebe Bahrami has been trekking across France, Portugal, and Spain since 1986. She first set foot on the Camino de Santiago in 1995 and has been drawn to it ever since, walking many routes of it across Western Europe. She is just back from a research and writing trek, having completed the over 500-mile long trek to write the Moon Camino de Santiago guidebook for Avalon/Perseus, due out spring 2019. Known for her outdoors and adventure, cross-cultural, and archaeological writing, Beebe is the author of four travel books on France and Spain. Her writing also appears in numerous magazines, including Wine Enthusiast, Archaeology, The Bark, the Pennsylvania Gazette, Michelin Green Guides, National Geographic books, and Perceptive Travel, among others.
