Learning from Unforgettable Memoirs, w/Eva Feeley

LEARNING FROM UNFORGETTABLE MEMOIRS
A FREE, 6-WEEK WRITING WORKSHOP MODERATED BY EVA FEELEY
Of the hundreds of memoirs that are published each year, there are a handful that become classics. What is the "secret sauce" that separates the delicious from the merely edible? To be sure, it is something different in each case. As memoirists, our skills can be dramatically improved by recognizing what each author blended into their story that launched it to best seller status and, in some cases, to award-winning film. Excerpts from the following memoirs and your own manuscripts will be discussed during the sessions.
If you are able to read the six memoirs before the workshop begins, you'll no doubt get so much more from the discussions we have in session. You may find that the style of one or two of the authors influence your editing process.
Here is our reading list:
The Middle Place by Kelly Corrigan, The Tender Bar by J.R. Moehringer, Manhattan When I Was Young by Mary Cantwell, Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs, Drinking: A Love Story by Caroline Knapp, and The Color of Water by James McBride.
*Participants must bring their own pencils and notebooks, and must be available for all six sessions.*
