Alex Edmans

“What to trust in a ‘post-truth’ world”

Our next TED talk is by researcher Alex Edmans, entitled, “What to trust in a ‘post-truth’ world.”

In this very insightful talk, Alex explains how only if we are truly open to the possibility of being wrong can we ever learn.  He explores how confirmation bias -- the tendency to only accept information that supports your personal beliefs -- can lead you astray on social media, in politics and beyond, and offers three practical tools for finding evidence you can actually trust. (Hint: appoint someone to be the devil'sadvocate in your life.)

Alex uses rigorous academic research to influence real-life business practices — in particular, how companies can pursue purpose as well as profit.   And this research also applies to each of us as individuals.

Alex is professor of finance at London Business School and managing editor of the Review of Finance, the leading academic finance journal in Europe. He is anexpert in corporate governance, executive compensation, corporate socialresponsibility, and behavioral economics.

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design, and the TED talks feature experts in a variety of fields who present unique ways of looking at their respective fields of expertise.

Everyone is welcome to these free sessions.

A discussion will take place after the lecture.
