Dr. David Casarett
“What if mainstream health care operated more like a medical marijuana dispensary?”

We are having a fascinating TED talk this Saturday I would encourage all seniors, as well as those with senior parents, to watch by Dr. David Casarett, entitled,  “What if mainstream health care operated more like a medical marijuana dispensary?”

Dr. Casarett, professor of medicine at the Duke University School of Medicine, Chief of Palliative Care for the Duke Health System, and Author of Stoned: A Doctor's Case for Medical Marijuana, was tired of hearing hype and half-truths around medical marijuana, so he put on his skeptic's hat and investigated on his own. He came back with a fascinating report on what the medical community knows and what it doesn't -- and what mainstream medicine could learn from the modern medical marijuana dispensary.

He shares what he's learned about this chronically-misunderstood drug -- including the control it gives patients over their health and the educational atmosphere of dispensaries -- and outlines what we still need to do to explore its potential health benefits.

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design, and the TED talks feature experts in a variety of fields who present unique ways of looking at their respective fields of expertise.

Everyone is welcome to these free sessions.

A discussion will take place after the lecture.
