The Alliance of Information and Referral Services of New Jersey is a nonprofit corporation. It was established in 1985 to represent the diverse interests of the information and referral services throughout the state of New Jersey. It unites and serves as a facilitator to advance professionalism and effectiveness as a vital enabling link between people in need and human services.
Information and referral is a service that helps people in need find the services that can best alleviate or eliminate that need. I & R develops and maintains current information about community resources in the human services field. Information and referral also provides information the clients via the phone about those resources and makes appropriate referrals to service agencies. Information and referral specialists participate in community education, advocate for the development of new human services, and compile research to assist local planners and funders of programs.
