Local Author Talk and Book Signing

with Trudi Clark, Author of Born and Raised

Tuesday, September 10th at 6:30pm

Room N111

Growing up in Philadelphia in the 1950’s, author and clay artisan Trudi Clark spent her childhood playing in the iconic buildings surrounding her neighborhood. “When I was a child, there were no playgrounds in the city. Kids played on the pavement, in the street outside their home or in my case, in and around the buildings surrounding my home.”  Inspired by her past, Clark wrote a compilation of short stories about a little girl growing up in Philadelphia. “All the stories are centered around those historic buildings where I played in Center City,” Clark said.

In her new memoir, “Born and Raised,” Clark recalls a specific time period in Philadelphia’s history and highlights fond memories and relatable anecdotes for those with similar or shared experiences during that era. Brimming with nostalgia, the book examines the city’s history and architecture and how the cityscape evolved through population growth and development. Clark also offers a comprehensive walking tour of the Center City area to provide readers with a guide for those wishing to retrace her steps. “By pinpointing a specific area of the city that I know like the back of my hand, I hope to offer an interesting and historically accurate snapshot of what life was like for a child in Philadelphia during the 1950’s,” said Clark. “Born and Raised” is available for purchase online at Amazon.com and bornandraisedbytc.etsy.com.

Beginning Tuesday, September 3rd, the library will be temporarily closed to the public for HVAC maintenance. After careful consideration and consultation with the construction team, we have decided that for safety and efficiency, the entire library will remain closed during the project. However, the meeting rooms will remain open, and items can still be checked out using our curbside pickup service. Please note that curbside pickup may take longer than usual. Events and programs will continue as scheduled. The project is expected to be completed within about three weeks. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we work to improve our facilities.
