1000 Books Before Kindergarten
1,000 books before kindergarten is a program that encourages families to read 1,000 books to their child before they enter kindergarten. Any child from birth until they enter kindergarten is eligible to register!
• Register your child for our "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten" challenge.
• Stop by the children's desk at the library to pick up a reading tracker for your child OR download reading trackers for the entire challenge.
• Start reading and keep track of how many books you read to your child! Earn prizes along the way until you reach 1,000 books!
Reading books to young children builds language and other early literacy skills. Reading books together also creates a special bonding time between children and their parents/cargivers.

The program is self-paced, so it depends on how often you read with your child. If you read 3 books a day, it will take under a year to reach the 1,000 book goal. If you read one book a day, it will take just under 3 years.

Every time a book is read to the child it counts! If you read one book ten times, then it counts for ten books.
